What’s on around Clapham August 2018

Here’s our pick of activities and events around Clapham this August. Don’t forget to check out our bars with gardens blog too.

Outdoor events & activities

An annual favourite, the Tooting Blues and Folk Festival is on 4 August with live music and food & drink stalls. It takes place on Tooting common by Dr Johnson Avenue and it’s FREE. For the full line-up see their website.

Enjoy jazz in the park at the Pear Tree café in Battersea Park every Wednesday during the summer from 6-9pm.

We love Clapham’s Metro Garden  restaurant in the summer  – and it’s the perfect venue for a spot of outdoor cinema too. See this link for a full schedule of movies – starting on Sunday 12 August with Kinky Boots. Ticket price (from £15) includes film with a glass of beer or wine, a hot dog (or veggie dog) plus plenty of popcorn. Tickets are already selling out for some films.

Concerts at Clapham bandstand continue with Wandsworth Oasis/LGBTQ+ acts in partnership with Clapham Grand on Saturday 18 August noon-5pm and on Sunday 2 September, 2-4pm Junction Jazz will be performing.

SW4 festival takes over the August bank holiday weekend from Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August on Clapham Common. For the full line-up click here.

Battersea Power Station is running a selection of children’s activities at Circus West Village throughout August including Design a T-shirt, hanging mobile making, grow your own veg and a hoola festival. See their website for full details.

And – also great for kids – Battersea Park Children’s Zoo has a series of special days during August with the chance to find out about interesting creatures including the bearded dragon lizard, the dumbo rat and the tamarind monkey. See their website for details.

Sambrooks Brewery is celebrating 10 years of brewing at its Battersea-based site in Yelverton Road with a street party weekend on Friday 31 August from 4pm and on Saturday 1 September. There will be live music and DJs, street food and local artisan goodies plus, of course, craft beer all brewed on site.

Sport

If you are looking for a running challenge you can sign up now for a brand new adidas City Run through the streets of Clapham on 16 September.  The Clapham 10K closed road running event will take you on a flat route through Clapham and Stockwell.  You’ll be able to enjoy the Event Village at the end of your run and then head of to take advantage of special offers at local Clapham bars and restaurants. Arts & Crafts

If you fancy doing something creative this month, The Exhibit in Balham is holding a workshop on Sunday 5 August on how to create a miniature garden. you’ll also receive a complimentary glass of Prosecco to get those creative juices flowing. Tickets from £45 per person and all equipment is provided.

Or how about combining baking with dating?! The Castle in Tooting is holding an evening of baking and speed dating on 3 August from 7pm-9.45pm for singletons age 25-35. As it says on their website, even if you don’t meet the love of your life, you’re guaranteed to go home with something sweet!

If art is more your thing, Bunga Bunga in Battersea is hosting a Paint Pop Art event run by PopUp Painting on 22 August, 7.30-10pm.  Unleash your creativity with a paintbrush in one had and a wine glass in the other (optional!) You’ll be guided step-by-step by a practising artist and your experience includes all art supplies – paint, brushes and apron. £25.99 per person.

Coming up

Looking ahead to September, Clapham Old Town Fair is a free event on Saturday 1 September from noon-5pm with food & drink, stalls, dog show, live music, rides, Vauxhall City Farm, sports, games and more.

GO! Organicfest comes to Battersea Park for the first time on 8-9 September. With 100 stalls specialising in organic, sustainable and healthy products incluing organic beers, there will also be cooking demos, a children’s farm, circus entertainment, funfair rides and live music. Headliners include The Hoosiers and The Magic Numbers. Early bird tickets are £26 per adult, £13 per child.

Bellevue Road by Wandsworth Common is holding its summer fair on Sunday 16 September, 11am-5pm with stalls, live music, children’s entertainment and the much loved annual dog show.

The Luna Cinema will be showing films outdoors in September at Battersea Park, including Three Billboards.
