Thai and Vietnamese Restaurants in Clapham
Thai remains a popular cuisine in the Clapham area and we’ve also seen the opening of several Vietnamese restaurants too.
Thai Cuisine is known for being hot and spicy and its balance of five fundamental flavors in each dish or the overall meal – hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty and bitter (optional).

246 Battersea Park Road, London, Battersea SW11 3BP, T: 020 7223 5924
Family-run restaurant plus delivery service, fully licensed and Bring Your Own Bottle.
346-348 Garratt Lane, Earlsfield, SW18 4SR
We are regulars at their deli Amaranth Too at 527 Garratt Lane – fabulous, authentic pastes and Thai ingredients. We haven’t tried their restaurant yet.
110 St John’s Hill, Clapham Junction, SW11 1SJ, T: 020 7223 7888
A five minute walk up the hill from Clapham Junction will bring you to an enclave of restaurants, bars and shops. Don’t get too excited – it’s not Clapham! However, there is enough here to warrant a visit including this BYO Thai . There is also a new branch at 181 Tooting High Street SW17 0SZ – BYO and cash only.
3 Station Parade, Balham High Road, London SW12 9AZ, T: 020 8673 9796
Thai menu, cocktails, children’s menu, large sports screen, DJ every Friday night. Very popular at weekends.
Mien Tay (Vietnamese)
180 Lavender Hill, Battersea, London SW11 5TQ, T: 020 7350 0721
This Vietnamese restaurant is very popular at weekends so it’s advisable to book. It is named after the area of South Vietnam from where the owners originate and includes traditional dishes that are local to the Mien Tay region.
The Paddyfield (Vietnamese)
4 Bedford Hill, Balham, SW12 9RG, T: 020 8772 1145
More of a café style restaurant with great food at good prices plus you can bring your own bottle.
Pepper Tree (Thai)
19 Clapham Common Southside, Clapham, SW4 7AB, T: 020 7622 1758
Good value Thai restaurant with excellent curries
50-52 Battersea Rise, SW11 1EG T: 020 3058 1756
Part of a small family-run chain, this relatively new addition to Battersea Rise makes Vietnamese food more mainstream. The focus is very much on sharing and we’ve heard good reports. Interesting decor too, if a little dark (let’s call it atmospheric!). We’re looking forward to giving it a go soon.
Thai Garden (Thai)
58, Battersea Rise, London, SW11 1EG, T: 020 7738 0380
A long-standing restaurant, not quite as high standards as the early days – in our opinion – but still reasonable.
362 Old York Road, Wandsworth, SW18 1SP, T: 020 8877 2725
There are three restaurants in this group. We haven’t tried this one located amongst the enclave of shops and restaurants known as ‘The Tonsleys’, but we very much liked the one that used to be on Northcote Road (now a Bill’s) and were sorry to see it go. The nearby Alma pub is worth a visit if you want to make an evening of it.
Tumnan Thai Restaurant (Thai)
163, Lavender Hill, Battersea, SW11 5QH, T: 020 7223 1046
We haven’t tried this but it gets good reviews. We’ll let you know!
