News and events around Clapham May 2017

Two bank holidays, lighter evenings and warmer days – we love this time of year! There’s plenty happening in May around Clapham but do get in touch if we’ve missed anything.

What’s new

If you love cocktails, this is the month for you with the launch of several new cocktail bars around Clapham.

Little Bird cocktail bar & restaurant has just opened at 1 Battersea Rise, SW11 1HG. We haven’t visited yet but we love the look (see photo) and sound of it – botanical inspired cocktails and Asian/Med tapas. A perfect combination!

We’re sad to see Rise46 go but welcome another new cocktail bar in its place on Battersea Rise – Tequila Mockingbird, due to open this summer.

Down in Tooting, Brick & Liquor is a new cocktail bar at 82 Mitcham Road SW17 which also runs cocktail masterclasses and a cocktail club on Thursdays. Light bites and sharing plates also available.

And over Wandsworth Common way there’s a new cocktail bar and restaurant coming soon called Stillwater, at 206 Trinity Road.

Not to be left out, Balham also boasts a new restaurant and cocktail bar on Hildreth Street in Balham. Curveball, offers a different angle on balls – potato rosti balls, classic meatballs and even beetroot and tahini balls. Upstairs the emphasis is on ball-bites and downstairs a cocktail bar.

Cartel is a new late-night tequila bar & taqueria opening soon at 517 Battersea Park Road SW11. It will stock over 70 different tequilas and host live music and DJs from Thursday to Saturday (open until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights).

Bison & Bird on Clapham High Street has gone to new pastures and Five Guys burger joint will be taking over and serving up… you guessed it, burgers, plus hot dogs, sandwiches, fries and milkshakes.

And we’re sad to see Gastro on Venn Street is boarded up with rumours that a pizza chain will take its place. We don’t know if that’s true but it’s disappointing to say goodbye to another independent.

Wandsworth Arts Fringe 5- 21 May with over 140 events, performances and productions throughout Wandsworth.

Mommi on Clapham High Street is hosting late night live music sessions from 10pm-2am every Saturday until 1 July – party, disco, rock, funk and all the classics. And Friday nights brings a set wine & dine option including music for £25 per person. See their website to book.
