Clapham Indian Restaurants
There are probably more Indian restaurants in and around Clapham than any other cuisine – we do love a curry in Clapham…
However, we’ve also ventured a bit further out of our Clapham patch in pursuit of the best curries around because there are so many good Indian (and Pakistani) restaurants in Tooting. Bear in mind that often the most authentic curries aren’t always served in the most aesthetic surroundings.
15 Battersea Square, London SW11 3RA, T: 020 7924 2450
Contemporary, relaxed décor and friendly service.
Bombay Dine Club
133 Lavender Hill, London SW11 5QJ, T: 020 7288 9628
If you prefer lighter Indian cooking with delicate flavouring, try this Indian restaurant (also offers take-away and delivery). Stylish restaurant and attentive staff.
Clapham Tandoori (Indian)
10 Clapham Common Southside, Clapham, London, SW4 7AA, T: 020 7498 8489
Established in Clapham in 1971, the restaurant serves traditional Indian food and has a loyal following. Take-away and home delivery too.
Dosa ‘n’ Chutny
68 Tooting High Street, London SW17 0RN, T: 020 8767 9200
A dosa is a long thin crepe which is rolled and stuffed and is traditional in South Indian cooking. The food in fact combines Southern Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine and its vegetarian menu is particularly good. Limited wine menu but reasonably priced and the food is excellent value, although the restaurant itself won’t win any beauty contests – still it’s the food that counts.
57 Bedford Hill, Balham, London SW12 9EZ, T: 020 8673 8843
Popular local restaurant – no alcohol – with home delivery or take away service.
Golden Curry (Indian)
131 Clapham High Street, Clapham, London, SW4 7SS, T: 020 7720 9558
Restaurant, take-away and home delivery.
1 the Boulevard, Balham High Road, Balham London SW17 7BW, T: 020 8675 1188
Restaurant and home delivery/take-away service. Traditional Nepalese cuisine served in a relaxed environment – crisp white tablecloths and white walls. Generally the dishes aren’t as spicy as Indian food but if they aren’t too busy they can prepare dishes to your preference (eg spicy or mild).
Haweli of Clapham (Indian)
3 Cavendish Parade, Clapham Common Southside, SW4 9DW, T: 020 8673 4900
Indian Flavours (Indian)
5 Clapham High Street, Clapham, SW4 7TS, T: 020 7622 2060
An old-timer, established since 1986, the restaurant is popular with locals and has a late-night bar.
Indian Moment (India)
47, Northcote Road, SW11 1NJ T: 20 7223 6575
Excellent, stylish Indian restaurant which uses natural, fresh ingredients. Busy at weekends. Take-away available.
59 Bedford Hill, Balham, London SW12 9EZ, T: 020 8675 8611
Sister to the excellent Indian Moment on Northcote Road, expect good quality food and service here in stylish surroundings.
159 Lavender Hill, London SW11 5QH, T: 020 7978 4455
Good quality food from this restaurant which also offers take-away and delivery.
1 Tooting High Street, London SW17 0SN T: 020 8767 2477
Some of the best, most authentic curries can be found in Tooting. Lahore Karahi is in fact Pakistani cuisine so we hope we haven’t offended anyone by including it in the Indian section. Expect to queue but service is usually quick. Reputed to serve some of the best Pakistani food in London but don’t expect luxurious surroundings or fawning service! Naan bread and meat samosas are brilliant. No alcohol but you can bring your own.
117-119 Clapham High Street, Clapham, London, SW4 7TB
Often busy, take-away also available.
121 Upper Tooting Road, Tooting, London SW17 7TJ, T: 020 8767 7676
Popular Indian restaurant. We haven’t been for a while but enjoyed it on our visit. However, there are some reports that it’s not always as welcoming as it could be. Let us know what you think.
398 Garatt Lane, Earlsfield, London SW18 4HP, T: 020 8946 4221
Very popular Indian restaurant with pleasant décor and attentive service. Booking advisable at weekends.
15 Clapham High Street, SW4 7TS, T: 020 7720 0633
Relatively cheap Indian restaurant, offering take away
Indian food is characterized by its sophisticated and subtle use of many spices and vegetables grown across India and also for the widespread practice of vegetarianism. Some of the most popular Indian dishes in the UK include Onion Bhaji, Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Marsala.
