Cycling in Clapham

Best bike shops in Clapham

carouselOne of the easiest and quickest ways to travel around Clapham and London is by the humble bike – although not necessarily that humble these days with so many ‘super’ bikes now available. Of course there is also the London Cycle Hire scheme – sponsored by Santander – which may not provide the sleekest bikes around but only cost from £2 to hire – check the Transport for London website for details and the bike hire docking station locations.

We’ve compiled a list of good cycle shops and clubs in Clapham and nearby, and cycling information for all levels from complete novice to experienced cyclist. Do get in touch if you have any other recommendations.

Many bike shops are linked to the national Cycle Scheme a tax free method of purchasing a bike and accessories through your employer.

Don’t forget that Herne Hill – not too far from us (by bike at least!) has its own velodrome.

Cycle Clubs

Clapham Chasers running and triatholon club. Check out their website for details of cycling sessions for all levels from novices to experienced cyclists.

They host regular social events through MeetUp and are very welcoming towards new members – from Clapham and beyond.

Balham Cycling Club – this new incarnation of a cycling club dating back to 1897 is founded on a love of getting out on a bike, keeping fit, being social and having fun. See their website for more details.

Brixton Cycles Bike Club – affiliated to the Brixton Cycle shop (see below)
