Avenue London Cookery School  3 Enterprise Way, Wandsworth SW18 1FZ . A family run school offers everything from 3 hour evening classes to two week Chalet Host courses plus corporate events and bespoke courses for special occasions.

Cactus Kitchens, 1 St Luke’s Avenue, Clapham, SW4 7LG For serious foodies, Cactus Kitchens runs in partnership with Michelin star chef Michel Roux Jr and the MD of Cactus TV Amanda Ross. The culinary experiences and cooking lessons don’t come cheap but then again, you are learning from some of the world’s best chefs.

Cook Sri Lankan: Battersea SW11.  Numi runs group (4 or more people) home-based classes or she can teach at your home if you prefer. Each class costs £70 per person and lasts 3.5 hours. Numi also holds regular Dine Sri Lankan supper clubs.

Eat & Mess: runs cake and baking classes from its kitchen in North Street, Clapham SW4. Most classes are suitable for age 12 and above but check before booking.

Emma’s Kitchen: a home-based cookery school at Broomwood Road Battersea SW11. Courses range from prepare-ahead dinner parties to cooking for families. Courses aimed at students, teenagers and men are also available. You can also sign up for Emma’s home-cooked food delivered to your door.

Hashi, 60 Home Park Road, London SW19 7HN (near Wimbledon Park tube) Choose from a range of Japanese cooking classes including sushi and sashimi, canapé from the East and Japanese dumplings. Classes are for 6-7 people and including hands-on cooking and tasting the dishes with a glass or two of wine! Popular so book well in advance. Courses also available.

The London Cooking Project

Housed in a former ice factory, this is primarily a venue which provides cookery training for young talent – with a dining area so that you can watch the young chefs in action! It also runs supper clubs, pop-ups and cookery classes for everyone. Funding from these activities goes back into community and charity based projects around food.

Teaching 17-25 year olds the life skill of cooking plus specialist courses for people who wish to become chalet cooks/hosts with our contacts in the ski industry. We are an AAP for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold scheme and our courses can be used to qualify for the award if combined with a residential aspect.

Butchery classes

Chadwicks Butchers, 109 Balham High Road, Balham London SW12 9AP Butchery classes are run by Mr Chadwick himself – one of the few master butchers left in the country. There are two levels of courses which take place in the evening from 7-10.30pm. They are popular so you are advised to book in advance. Full details on their website.

Ginger Pig has a fabulous shop at 55 Abbeville Road, Clapham SW4 9JW. They run butchery classes but currently not at their Clapham shop (Marylebone & Shepherd’s Bush).

Baking and cake decorating

Learn the art of icing biscuits at this gorgeous new biscuiteers boutique. Workshops for all ages.

Cake Boy, Kingfisher House, Battersea Reach (off York Road), Juniper Driver, London SW18 1TX
In addition to his stylish cake-boutique on the river in Battersea, Cake Boy, aka Eric Lanlard, has his own cookery school which includes half day cup cake masterclasses, pastry making sessions, baking classes and more. Lessons are fun and popular with small groups for parties too.

Cakes 4 Fun is famous for its innovative and amazing cakes. The company also runs cake decorating and sugarcraft courses for beginners and more experienced decorators and have been highly recommended by several Totally Clapham followers. The courses are for those aged 16 or over although in the holidays there are cupcake classes for budding bakers aged between 12 and 15 years.

Deelight Bakery 14 Ritherdon Road, Balham, London SW17 8QD. This lovely café/bakery also runs  cake decorating ‘hen’ parties plus children’s pizza and cake decorating parties onsite.

Cookie Crumbles: Cooking parties for children and teenagers plus regular hands-on cooking classes at Eddie Catz in Putney for toddlers and children aged 4-8 years. Check website for full details.
