What’s new

Whiteleys23Welcome to Whiteley’s cleaners – bespoke dry cleaning and laundry service – which has just opened at 32 Clapham Old Town, SW4 0LB. To celebrate its arrival in Clapham, customers will receive 50% off dry cleaning and laundry during the whole of October. Whiteleys is open seven days a week (9am-1pm Sundays) and also offers a collection and delivery service.

The new-look Trinity restaurant in Clapham and a new restaurant ‘Upstairs’ will officially open on 12 October. ‘Upstairs’ is a completely new casual dining space on the site’s first floor.

We brought Beer, the craft beer store, has opened a new shop at 78 St John’s Hill, Clapham Junction, SW11. If you’ve already visited their Balham branch on Hildreth Street, you’ll know that they specialise in craft beers. Try, buy or make your own – yes, beer making kits are on sale too.

Valentina Fine Foods – Italian deli, shop and restaurant – is coming to Lavender Hill, just up from Clapham Junction.

Hawkins Forge pub has opened at 110 Battersea Rise SW11.

Loaf – the ‘laid back’ online furniture store – has opened a showroom, ‘The Battersea Shack’, at 255-259 Queenstown Road, Battersea,  SW8 3NP.

Debenhams, on Lavender Hill near Clapham Junction, is opening its new store in Southside shopping centre any day now!

You may already know, but we’ve only just discovered that Tooting market and many restaurants are now open late on Fridays and Saturdays. Of course, Clapham has been buzzing late into the night for years!

Clapham Opera Festival starts on 9 October. Full details and how to book tickets here.

Wandsworth Open House: continues 10/11 October, 11am-6pm, when over 100 Wandsworth artists open their studios and homes to the public.

FREE underground/overground walk organised by Friends of Clapham Common on Sunday 11 October. Meet at 2pm at the bandstand. Lots of mysteries to explore!

Last chance to tour Brixton’s windmill (yes, Brixton has its own windmill!) on 10/11 October before winter hibernation.

Rebel Bingo at The Grand, Clapham Junction Friday 16 October 8-11pm: Described as ‘bingo but a lot more emotional’. Expect music, prizes and mountains of confetti! This show is all standing and will finish around 11pm followed by an after party in the venue until late.

12004900_933474416691161_1276041054986534565_nSouth London Vintage Furniture Flea Fair: If you love all things retro head down to this market on Sunday 18 October 11am-4.30pm at the Territorial Army Centre, 73 Kings Avenue, Clapham SW4 8DX.  Expect everything from mid-century furniture and homewares to kitsch ceramics, collectible items and bargains galore! 

We like the sound of this storytelling event –  ‘So, this is what happened…’ taking place at Clapham’s wonderful Omnibus arts centre on Thursday 15 October, 7.30pm. Seven people tell a true ten minute story from their life. Where else can you have a thought-provoking, funny and entertaining evening for just £5?  See the Omnibus website for details of this and other events this month.

Local company OIS Removals got in touch to let us know they are taking part in the ‘Day of Giving’, a charity event in association with estate agent Knight Frank on 15 October – the event historically raises tens of thousands of pounds. Halloween! More details to follow but we know that Dirty Martini has already announced its Halloween party plans plus the Wandsworth Whichcraft beer festival takes place 28-31 October at Le Gothique.

You may have already heard that there will be no fireworks in Brockwell Park this year. Our nearest display will be Battersea Park on Saturday 7 November.
