Best Sunday roasts in Clapham

We’ve been ‘researching’ the best Sunday roasts in and around Clapham, with some help from our Totally Clapham friends and followers. Needless to say, we’ve had to postpone the diet…

In fact, a Sunday roast is more healthy than you might think. There are usually plenty of vegetables and, if you trim off any excess fat, meat is an excellent source of protein plus many other essential nutrients. And, let’s face it, we need a few potatoes and Yorkshire pud to give us energy at the end of the weekend!

Obviously we haven’t tried all the pubs and restaurants around Clapham which serve a Sunday roast so do get in touch or tweet us @totallyclapham if we’ve missed out one of your favourites.

Everyone’s talking about the Sunday roast at the pop-up in the former Jan restaurant on Northcote Road

The Bobbin: The Bobbin is how a pub should be, in our opinion, and its no-nonsense Sunday roast gets the thumbs up from us and many Totally Clapham followers. The word is out so you’re wise to book in advance.

Trinity: it’s not really surprising that one of Clapham’s top restaurants – it now has a Michelin star – is popular for a Sunday lunch. It’s on the pricey side as you might expect (although £39 for 3 courses is good value for such quality cooking and service). Highly recommended if you’ve got a special occasion coming up – but you’ll need to book in advance. If you can’t get a table, try their sister, and less expensive, restaurant Bistro Union on Abbeville Road SW4.

The Jam Tree: this is more of a buzzy venue for Sunday lunch. Roasts include pork, beef and chicken plus there are plenty of other dishes, including vegetarian, to choose from.

The Stonhouse: another one of our favourite pubs in Clapham, again particularly in the summer with its secluded garden (click here for more pubs with gardens in Clapham). But it has also been recommended by a Totally Clapham follower for its excellent Sunday roast. She wanted us to keep it a secret, so don’t tell anyone…  Several other pubs also in the Three Cheers pub group offer a reasonable Sunday lunch too – The Abbeville on Abbeville Road, Avalon and The Bolingbroke. One of our followers also recommended The Latchmere pub in Battersea which we confess we didn’t realise also comes under the Three Cheers banner.

22 North Street, Clapham SW4 0HB – a lovely, friendly independent restaurant with great Sunday roasts – recommended by several Totally Clapham followers.

Powder Key Diplomacy – up the hill from Clapham Junction (quite a long way up!) at 147 St Johns Hill SW11, this quirky place has been recommended by a respected Totally Clapham follower for its Sunday lunches. Best to book as there aren’t that many tables in the restaurant.

The Mason’s Arms
We haven’t tried this pub over in Battersea but its Sunday roasts come recommended by one of our followers, who also rates The Bobbin, so we trust his judgement. The roasts are pork, chicken, lamb and 28 day dry aged Shorthorn sirloin beef plus a non-roast menu.
