Best Breakfasts in Clapham 2014/5

We can’t confess to having tried all the breakfasts on offer in Clapham – that would be plain greedy – but here are some of our favourite cafés and restaurants for breakfast and brunch in and around SW4. We will add to the list as we try out more places. Then we’ll go on a diet…

36 Clapham Old Town, SW4 0LB, T: 020 7498 0064
If you want good old fashion bacon and eggs in unpretentious surroundings, this family-run restaurant is the place. It’s open every day from 7am-6pm and breakfast is served all day too.

50-57 The Pavement, Clapham SW4 0JQ, T: 020 7498 9128
If you’re more a fan of bakery breakfasts than a full English, Del’Aziz has an amazing selection of breads, pastries and cakes in addition to the usual cooked breakfasts. For the adventurous there are Moroccan pancakes, and a selection of North African favourites too plus interesting smoothies and juices.

160 Clapham High Street, London SW4 7UG
We defy you to resist the mouth-watering display of bakery and patisserie delights in this relaxed deli/café. Breakfast is reasonably priced and includes everything from bacon and eggs to pancakes, fruit salads and pastries. It gets busy and there’s no table service so be prepared to be patient!

We’ve heard that No32 The Old Town is good too but have yet to try. Watch this space…

Clapham Junction area

Jack’s at the Junction
252 Lavender Hill SW11 1LJ, T: 020 7228 9111
You may not have even noticed this café on Lavender Hill, a few minutes’ walk from Clapham Junction, but if you’re looking for a traditional breakfast this is the place. Breakfast is served all day and is made to order. Take away is also available. The portions are huge making it great value for money. You won’t leave here hungry!

123 St John’s Hill, London SW11 1SZ, T: 020 7228 6663
Are you cool enough for breakfast here? It’s a five minute or so walk uphill from CJ station but you’ll be rewarded with excellent coffee in this small but beautifully formed café. Don’t expect the usual fare of bacon and eggs; they do things differently at Birdhouse. Pulled pork baked beans on a Cheddar waffle anyone?!

Breakfast Club
5-9 Battersea Rise SW11 1HG, T: 020 7078 9630
The clue is in the name! Popular with twenty-somethings at weekends (expect to queue), the breakfasts aren’t necessarily the best in town but it’s a fun, lively place. Breakfast/brunch served until 5pm.

Cafe Tamra
63 Northcote Road SW11 1NP T: 020 7223 4894
Another café that gets popular at weekends. Fairly small with some tables outside and a garden at the back (not always open). Good for breakfast with some interesting options, including gluten free and vegetarian. Pancake stacks are delicious! Dog friendly.

20 Bedford Hill, (corner of Hildreth Street), Balham SW12 9RG T: 020 8772 9085
You’re better off not going to Milk at the weekends! It is a smallish café (with outside seating) and is heaving on Saturdays and Sundays. Coffee is excellent as are the breakfasts – traditional English but interesting alternatives too. Delicious sourdoughbreads and good smoothies.

Do get in touch if you have any ‘best breakfast’ recommendations.
